Imagine Bamboo Work
In 2022 I was luckily enough to be invited to work with Imagineer, and independent artistic director Orit Azaz, helping to present an ambitious public art, engagement and creative enquiry project: Imagine Bamboo.
Artists, designers, engineers and communities from across the UK, and internationally, came together to explore the potential of bamboo – widely held to be one of the most important sustainable building materials for the planet. This set the scene for a growing network of creative collaborators, excited about the potential for bamboo development in the UK:
During this research 12 artists from the Liverpool City Region worked with the other groups to create an amazing informative weekend event as part of the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony in Birmingham and we developed our research in to construction techniques, whilst building a giant bamboo arch.

During the Summer of 2023, the artists from the pervious year were able to develop art Installations for display and in August 2023, Imagineer joined forces with Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, Culture Liverpool and our six local authority partners to bring Imagine Bamboo is Everywhere to towns across Liverpool City Region.
Finally, we presented a series of large scale artworks made by all the talented local artists, with bamboo harvested locally from Ness Botanical Gardens. Unfortunately my displays didn't stand up the the weather or being transported around, and by Southport's turn they had all broken, so I Created the Jellyfish to go with Julian's Under the sea creation.
In October 2023, the Liverpool City Region Bamboo Summit, saw artists, engineers, academics and policy makers come together to share expertise, case studies and plans for the legacy of Imagine Bamboo is Everywhere in Liverpool.
